The Big Read 2017 Kickoff
Fishtrap kicks off The Big Read on Thursday, January 12th with a book give-away, a screening of the documentary Dick Cavett's Vietnam, and of course, the famous Hurricane Creek Grange Hall pies. Stop by and learn more about the novel, The Things They Carried and all The Big Read events coming in January and February including films, expert guests, a special veteran’s art exhibit, a writing workshop, and a fun 60's fashion show dance party.
Join us this winter as Fishtrap celebrates the work of Tim O'Brien The Vietnam War still has the power to divide Americans between those for it and those against. Today it also divides us, just as surely, between those who remember its era firsthand and those not yet born when the troops came home. There may be no better bridge across these twin divides than Tim O’Brien’s novel in stories The Things They Carried. The details of warfare may have changed since Vietnam, but O’Brien’s semi-autobiographical account of a young platoon on a battlefield without a front, dodging sniper fire and their own misgivings, continues to win legions of dedicated readers, both in uniform and out. Fishtrap has provided free copies of these books to public libraries and schools throughout Wallowa Co. Pick up your copy and join us for The Big Read!
