SUMMARY:Wallowa County FEAST
DESCRIPTION:The 2021 Wallowa County FEAST (Food\, Education\, Agriculture\, Solutions\, Together)\, a community forum to discuss food systems and food resources\, is going virtual. \n\nThe event\, cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, is March 16\, 5:30-7:30 p.m. via Zoom. Hosting an event centered on food over video conferencing is challenging\, so registrants are invited to make and enjoy an appetizer at the beginning of the event and to share the recipe with the other participants.\n\n\n\nAfter the virtual happy hour\, three speakers will address their corner of the Wallowa County food world - Kristy Athens of Genuine Wallowa County/Wallowa County Provisions\, Patrick Thiel of Prairie Creek Farms and Jessica Espinoza\, Community Connection Food Bank. Participants will then move into break-out sessions to discuss topics of interest related to the challenges of food systems in a rural area and the successes and obstacles of securing food during a pandemic.\n\n\n\nFunding for the event and micro-grants to local organizations is from The Oregon Food Bank and was secured by Wallowa County OSU Extension and St. Patrick Episcopal Church. \n\nFacing the statewide shut-down in March\, much of the FEAT funding was released to Wallowa County schools to support school lunch programs\, the Wallowa County Farmers market for a hand washing station\, and to the Community Connection Food Bank\, supplying it with fresh\, locally grown lettuce.\n\nAll registrants will be eligible for door prizes. Registration is available at tinyurl.com/WCFEAST. For more information\, email caitlin.rushlow@gmail.com.
