Mike Lawrence will reveal how the ancient art of graphic storytelling fires the imagination and inspires creative thinking through drawing. Watch Mike create a comic before your eyes and learn why graphic storytelling is considered an important part of the literary tradition. \n\n \n\nMike Lawrence is the award-winning illustrator of Muddy Max: The Mystery of Marsh Creek and the novel The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl. The Star Scouts series is his debut as a solo graphic novelist. In addition to making comics\, Mike has created several pieces of public art in Portland\, Oregon. The public is encouraged to attend this free event. It takes place at 7:00pm\, Thursday March 8 at Enterprise High School. Come with questions and learn how you can draw your own comic too.\n\n \n\nThis event is part of Fishtrap's Big Read celebration of the novel\, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Station Eleven was a finalist for the National Book Award and PEN/Faulkner Award\, was an Amazon Best Book of the Month\, and was named one of the best books of 2015 by more than a dozen publications. The novel is set 20 years after a devastating flu pandemic destroys civilization\, and follows a traveling troupe of actors and musicians dedicated to keeping the remnants of art and humanity alive through their performances.
