Fishtrap and The Big Read present a free movie night on Tuesday, March 5. You’ll be able to see the Disney/Pixar animated classic, Brave in Wallowa, Enterprise, and Joseph all on the same night!
Set in Scotland in a rugged and mythical time, Disney’s Brave features Merida, an aspiring archer and impetuous daughter of royalty. Merida makes a reckless choice that unleashes unintended peril and forces her to spring into action to set things right. The film revolves around a strong female main character and offers a positive message about family relationships and open communication between parents and kids.
Building Healthy Families provides snacks and treats for what is bound to be a fun family night at the movies. If you live in Enterprise, go to Fishtrap. If you live in Wallowa, go to Wallowa City Hall. And Joseph residents meet at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture. The film starts at 7:00pm in all three locations.
This Big Read presentation is one of six weeks of events surrounding the novel, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. In the coming weeks, Fishtrap hosts a panel discussion with EOU’s Nancy Knowles and Bette Husted on March 12, and a Wizard’s Feast World Building Finale on March 19. All events are free and open to the public. Go to Fishtrap.org for the full schedule.
The Big Read broadens our understanding of the world, our communities, and ourselves through the joy of sharing a good book. Every winter, Fishtrap celebrates one great work of literature by providing events, discussions, and free books to Wallowa County schools, libraries, and community members. The program is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts and is supported locally by neighborhood businesses and individual donations. Special thanks to community sponsors Community Bank, Pacific Power, Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition, and the Oregon Arts Commission.
