Ellen Bishop is a geologist, photographer, writer, and teacher who has explored and documented the Wallowa territory through a long professional career. She has taught at Eastern Oregon and Whitman, and is the author of In Search of Ancient Oregon and other books on geology and travel. Her photographs are part of the Josephy Center’s current exhibit, “About Wallowa County.”
Geologists observe patterns and colors to diagnose the origin and history of a stone and thus tell its story. Ellen will explore this juncture of art and science, and in the spirit of this exhibit, invites you to bring along a rock that you wonder about. Out of these geological samples she will build tales of the way and the when of Wallowa landscapes, and help you become a geologic story-teller as well.
(Bringing your own rock is not required, but is encouraged.)
