How to Write Memoir with Nick Jania
A memoir isn’t the encyclopedia of your life. It should be a story that highlights themes that are important to you and grounds those themes in relevant personal experiences. The story should come first, not the important achievements. This three-hour workshop will address common writing issues such as letting go of the fear of writing about ourselves, trusting our memories, dealing with sensitive subject matter involving people we love, and gaining momentum with our writing. All skill levels are welcome. The focus is on generating new material and learning tools for going deeper with our work.
Nick Jaina is a writer and musician living in Oakland, California. His memoir Get It While You Can was a finalist for the 2016 Oregon Book Award. He performs in living rooms, libraries, churches, bars, galleries, and anywhere people listen. His new novel Hitomi is out soon on Modern Mythology Press.
