28th Annual Summer Fishtrap
28th Annual Summer Fishtrap, What sets Summer Fishtrap apart from other writing conferences is our remote mountain lake setting, a focus on a provocative theme related to living and writing in the west and on the generation of new writing. Fishtrap readings, workshops, classes, conferences, fellowship. Fishtrap is about "Writing and the West. Located in the northeast corner of Oregon, at the foot of the the Wallowa Mountains' Eagle Cap Wilderness and a stone's throw from Hells Canyon of the Snake River in Nez Perce Country. Summer Fishtrap is held at scenic Wallowa Lake.
The 2015 Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of our founders, the journalist and historian, Alvin Josephy. Josephy was a marine, a journalist, and an historian. He became deeply interested in the history of Native Americans, especially the Nez Perce whose homeland is here in Wallowa County. Among many other books, he edited Lewis and Clark through Indian Eyes. He was dedicated to getting the whole story, especially those stories which have been widely ignored or devalued by the general population. In his honor, the 2015 Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers theme will be Hidden From History: Stories We Haven’t Heard, Stories We Haven’t Told. Our key note speaker will be the journalist and author, Timothy Egan
