Top predators may hold a key to life itself.
Can people and predators coexist?
Can we afford not to?
Rural communities depend on reliable water and healthy watersheds. Could water quality and water availability possibly be connected to top predators like the wolf and cougar? Birds, butterflies, beaver and elk, wildflowers and frogs — could their survival possibly be connected to these top predators?
For those who have seldom given thought to the great predators so often missing from the web of life, here is a world of reason to think again. LORDS OF NATURE is a documentary that tells the story of a science now discovering top carnivores as revitalizing forces of nature, and of a society now learning tolerance for animals they once banished. The film profiles ranchers in Idaho and Minnesota who have been successfully utilizing changes in livestock management and non-lethal methods to reduce wolf/livestock conflicts.
Northeast Oregon Ecosystems is hosting two screenings of LORDS OF NATURE. Mark your calendar to attend one of these free events.
Baker City: Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 PM at the Eltrym Theatre located at 1809 1st Street
Enterprise: Wednesday, March 24 at 7:00 PM at the OK Theatre located at 208 West Main Street
Both screenings will be followed by a Q&A discussion moderated by Dr. Mellie Pullman, Portland State University associate professor and resident of Joseph, OR who works closely with NE Oregon ranchers in sustainable livestock production through her association with Country Natural Beef and other local family ranches. Panelists include:
· Dr. Bob Beschta – Oregon State University professor emeritus, whose research is featured in the film
· Russ Morgan – Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Wolf Coordinator
· Gary Miller – US Fish and Wildlife Service, Field Supervisor
· Jesse Timberlake of Defenders of Wildlife, who has worked extensively in Idaho with livestock producers to minimize conflicts with wolves
