Tuesday Evening All-Genre Writing Group
On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm, an all-genres writing group (poets, playwrights, prose writers at any stage of their writing) will meet informally at the Fishtrap house. They typically work with some writing prompts if the group wishes, then those participants who want to can read from something they are working on and receive thoughtful advice. Amy Zahm, Licensed Acupuncturist, brought Chinese Medicine to Wallowa County five years ago. She has an extensive background in anatomy and kinesiology and formal training as a yoga instructor. The award winning Oregon Public Broadcasting film on the history of the Kam Wah Chung Museum located in John Day, OR, will be shown. This film chronicles the partnership between Lung On and Ing Hay. The museum, a 140-year-old structure that was owned by these two men, includes a vast collection of artifacts including items from Doc Hay's pharmacy and Lung On's mercantile. Additionally, local artist Steve Arment will discuss a painting in his collection by Lia Yong, a nineteenth century Chinese immigrant artist and photographer.

Dr. Chuimei Ho has a Ph.D. in archaeology and art history from the University of London. She is co-director of the Chinese in North America Research Committee located in Bainbridge Island, WA. Storyteller Kathy Hunter shares her slide presentation: To China, in Search of Stories. Traveling with a group of storytellers from the United States in 2010 Kathy visited historic sites in China and the tiny village of Gengcun, “The Village of Stories,” where residents preserve 600 years of oral stories. The stories she collected are shared here, accompanied by excellent photographs of China’s people and their surroundings. Following the tradition of past years, there will be a community potluck preceding the presentation and feature a main dish of Chinese origin.

In this session we will discuss federal and Oregon protected classes, define what unlawful harassment is (and isn’t), provide tips and strategies for dealing with harassment, and reporting incidents to management.
This session is designed to provide employees with the knowledge and tools to recognize and report unlawful harassment in the workplace.

Popular Business Planning Classes Are Back NEOEDD will offer the Foundations business planning class in Enterprise February 1.
The seven-session series of classes will take current and prospective business owners through the process of assessing their business plan and help them answer a myriad of questions about pricing, marketing, profit potential, break-even point and business structure. The classes are very interactive and participants will be encouraged to complete a written business plan by the end of the class.
Classes will be held on Wednesday nights in Enterprise. Classes will held from 6-9 p.m. A morning class will be held starting in late March. Contact us at 541-426-3598 if you have any questions, or to pre-register for either class

Wallowa County Food System Council Potluck and Meeting February 6th, 2012
Anyone interested in building a healthier local food system is encouraged to attend the next meeting of the Wallowa County local food group on Monday February 6th, 2012 at the Fishtrap House in Enterprise. The meeting will begin at 5:30pm with a potluck, followed by a discussion of efforts to engage local food producers, retail, restaurants, consumers, and schools in the community food assessment being prepared by Joshua Russell, Food Systems Specialist at NE Oregon Economic Development District.
Joshua Russell is still conducting interviews for the food assessment, so if you are a producer (chickens, cattle, produce, fruit, or any other food product that you sell), retailer/restaurant that features local food products, and would be interested in doing a brief interview with him you can contact him via e-mail or telephone at:541-426-3598
